Drop in Day will be an Eye Opener

Date published: 24 June 2010

Anyone interested in eyesight or overcoming problems with visual impairment can visit the Council’s Visual Impairment Team Open Day on 6 July, between 10am and 3pm, at Vision First Resource Centre, Wilshaw Lane, Ashton.

As well as advice for carers and how to avoid falls, there will be demonstrations of new braille technology, electronic low vision aids and information about counselling, glaucoma and sight problems associated with diabetes.

The Open Day will also be a chance to find out about local support and services and to meet the team.

An optician will be on hand during the day and a diabetic nurse will be there between 10.30 and 12.00 noon to answer queries. Enhanced Vision Ltd and Pamtrad Custom Ltd will showcase their low vision aids and braille products. Iris Gardening Group members will explain their activities for visually impaired gardeners and Age Concern will advise on falls awareness and prevention.

Everyone with an interest in sight loss is welcome - particularly carers, family and friends of people with a visual impairment.

For more information please contact The Visual Impairment Team, Vision First Resource Centre, 1 Wilshaw House, Wilshaw Lane in Ashton or telephone 0161 330 7028 or visit www.tameside.gov.uk/visualimpairment/services
