Continued Success with Key Stage 2 Results
Date published: 16 August 2010
It’s good news for Tameside’s primary schools, where results for Key Stage 2 pupils (aged 11) are at or above national averages for the sixth consecutive year.
Results for maths are particularly pleasing with 81% of Tameside's children achieving level 4. This exceeds the highest ever national figure of 80% thanks to the work of schools supported by the local authority's targeted improvement work.
Overall, the average performance for all children has increased significantly, with the gap between highest and lowest achieving groups narrowing.
Cllr Ged Cooney, Executive Member for Lifelong Learning said:
“These are great results. Tameside has been a Pathfinder for the country in introducing specialist mathematics teachers for our primary schools and this has certainly paid off."
"Our Foundation stage results are also extremely pleasing as we all recognise how important it is for children to make the best possible start to their education.
"This year’s the targets set were extremely challenging and we have exceeded them by a long way. Congratulations to our pupils, schools and parents in continuing to raise standards.”
The results are as follows, with last year’s figures in brackets:
English - Tameside 81, (81), National average 81* (80)
Maths – Tameside 81 (79), National average 80*(79)
