Induction Day
Date published: 28 July 2010
Hyde Clarendon hosted a successful Induction Day for prospective students that will join the college in September.
After an initial welcome, the students were split into tutor groups and spent some time getting to know each other by taking part in ice breaker games and finding out what life at college will be like. Subject tutors then ran short workshops giving students a flavour of what they will be studying in September.
Childcare students got involved in ‘designing a uniform’ and then had a presentation about placements in the workplace and how this was a vital part of their programme. In Health Care the students were involved in making life size drawings of the body, putting body organs in place and working out how to keep the body as healthy as possible.
IT students were set tasks in Photo-plus to do some fun photo manipulation, whilst the Media and Performing Arts students, together with current students, got involved in the drama and dance, creating a real energy and buzz. Public Services students took part in a variety of physical activities on the field whilst the Sports department introduced current students with the school leavers and played badminton.
At lunchtime everyone came together to enjoy a large barbeque whilst trying to “hook a duck”, spin plates, make balloon animals or outplay each other at Wii – activities.
The day was an eventful one for all concerned and we look forward to welcoming the new students in September and hope that after the induction sessions they already feel part of the college community.
