Date published: 20 June 2010
The borough’s brightest young stars will be in the spotlight next week at the annual Tameside Achievement Awards.
All schools have been invited to nominate two pupils who have shown outstanding achievement in various aspects of their school and personal life to attend the event.
More than 150 children and young people will be presented with a certificate by the Civic Mayor, Councillor Jean Brazil, and Executive Director for Services for Children and Young People, Jim Taylor, at two ceremonies to be held at Dukinfield Town Hall on 22 June and 5 July. Each pupil will later receive an official photograph of the presentation.
The Tameside Achievement Awards are sponsored by the Stamford Group who will be represented at the ceremonies by Mr John Nugent MBE and Mr Stephen Dubyl.
Councillor Ged Cooney, Executive Member for Lifelong Learning, said: “The achievement awards are a great way of recognising and celebrating young people across Tameside. It is not easy to nominate just two pupils from each of our schools – their success represents the achievements of so many young people.”
The final accolade for these pupils is to have their names recorded on the “Tameside Wall of Fame” on the Tameside website www.tameside.gov.uk/education/achievementawards. Constructed of gold bricks, this electronic wall will include the names of all those nominated for the award this year, including previous years.
At the ceremony on Tuesday 22 June, awards will go to a number of children including:
Katie Jackson, year 6, Holden Clough Community Primary School
- Katie has demonstrated good citizenship during her time at Holden Clough, participating fully and with total commitment to herself and the whole school community
Callum Marks, year 10, Hyde Technology School and Hearing Impaired Resource Base
- Contribution to school - Callum has taken the major role in organising fund raising events
