Primary pupils are well versed in crime prevention

Date published: 28 April 2010

More than 150 primary school pupils recently entered a crime prevention competition run by Denton West Neighbourhood Policing Team.

Children from St Anne’s, Linden Road and Russell Scott primary schools had to write a poem about crime prevention to win the opportunity to record their poem and have it broadcast on Tameside Radio.

Officers were visiting the schools to talk to children about their role in the community as well as give crime prevention and personal safety advice.

Neighbourhood officer PC Lisa Cameron said: “The competition was run as a fun way to involve the children as well as provide them with valuable information and talk to them about our role in the community and how we are here to help them.

“We also hope the children share the crime prevention advice at home with their parents and guardians so that they can help stop their home and neighbourhood becoming a target of would-be offenders.

“The competition is just one of the many ways that Tameside West Neighbourhood Policing Team is working towards delivering the Policing Pledge.”
