Love football, love Haiti

Date published: 11 February 2010

Footballers from the worlds of housing and education clashed for charity, but it was the housing professionals who administered a lesson to the teachers.

Everyone has been moved by the scenes of devastation in Haiti. To raise money for UNICEF’s work in the country, staff from New Charter Housing Trust Group took on staff from the New Charter Academy in Ashton-under-Lyne.

After falling behind by two goals against the run of play, the Housing Trust gave a second half thrashing to the Academy, running out 7-3 winners.

For the Academy, Steven Hinz scored two and Jack Norbury added a penalty.

Match organiser Mamun Aziz bravely opened the scoring for the Housing Trust, but immediately limped off to Tameside Hospital for 8 stitches in his left foot. Replacement Sam Shackleton came on to net a hat-trick, and further goals came from Donovan Greenidge (2) and Chris Brown.

Before kickoff, the players themselves raised £300. The final total is expected to reach £500 for UNICEF’s work in Haiti.
