New home for indoor bowling in Tameside
Date published: 02 December 2009
Bowlers won’t feel the chill in Tameside this winter thanks to the £70,000 over-haul of the Etherow Centre in Broadbottom.
Situated on Mottram Road in Broadbottom village, the former gymnastics centre has been converted into the all-new Etherow Bowling and Activity Centre and will provide year round bowling for local leagues.
And an official opening ceremony will mark the completion of the centre this Friday (4 Dec).
A partnership between Tameside Council, the Etherow Trust and Tameside Sports Trust has overseen the £70,000 project, which has been built to national league standard, giving local bowlers the chance to play at the highest level.
And it’s not just bowlers who will benefit as community groups can also use the centre for other activities such as dance classes and aerobics whilst the bowling area isn’t in use.
The centre is the penultimate to re-open as part of Tameside’s £8million leisure centre over-haul, with Hyde Leisure Pool officially opening next Monday (7 Dec).
Beginners and teams are welcome at the centre. The programme also provides bowling leagues and activity sessions during the holidays.
Activities may be booked on a casual 'one off' basis or block booked by clubs, individuals. People wishing to book sessions should call the centre direct on 01457 763165.
