Bouncers - 1990s Remix
Date published: 09 September 2010
Written whilst a student drama teacher in Yorkshire, John Godber's 'Bouncers' is one of the most performed plays of the 20th century. According to Warner Chappel the rights holders there is at least one amateur production every week somewhere in the country. Well, one of those productions is right here on your doorstep as Mossley AODS have chosen to stage this clever comedy as their next production. Inspired by Kiko's club in Pontefract (the only Polynesian nightspot in Yorkshire!) - 'Bouncers' is an outrageous parody of the 1980s disco scene.
Featuring a cast of just four actors the male "bouncers" play a host of different characters preparing for the highspot of their week - Friday night. We meet lads on the town, teenage girls, hairdressers and hot dog salesmen amongst others.
MAODS have assembled a superb, experienced cast - Jon Crebbin, Russ Leamont, Steve Maxfield and Shaun Penton who will be creating all these roles under the sure direction of James Schofield. The whole play is set against a soundtrack of 80s hits, so why not boogie on down to the George Lawton Hall in Mossley between the 21st and 25th September.

'Acorn Antiques - the Musical!'
Mossley AODS is proud to announce the NW amateur premiere of Victoria Wood's musical based on her successful TV series. The show follows the attempts of Miss Babbs as she struggles to keep her antiques business open. Can she still afford to employ the dotty Mrs Overall? Will Mr Clifford ever get his memory back and remember who he's engaged to? And, most worryingly, will Mrs Overall be able to tap dance while still holding her tray?
'Acorn Antiques - the Musical!' is an affectionate pastiche of the soap-operas of the sixties such as 'Crossroads' and 'Waggoner's Walk' and cocks-a-snook at various genres of blockbuster musicals such as 'Les Misèrables' and 'Chicago' whilst not forgetting to include wobbly scenery, overacting, appalling dialogue and wild plots. The original production ran for a sell-out season in the West End and was nominated for Best New Musical at the Laurence Olivier Awards in 2006.
'Acorn Antiques -the Musical!' will be staged at the George Lawton Hall, Mossley from 9th - 14th May 2011. There will be a production get together at the Woodend Studio, Manchester Road, Mossley on Tuesday 14th September at 7.30pm. The auditions will be held on Sunday 3rd October.
If you are interested in this opportunity of being in only the third amateur production of this show, or you fancy something different then please contact Mossley's secretary - John Buckley on 01457 870 875 who will give you all the details and let you have the audition pieces or come to the get together on September 14th at the Woodend Studio on Manchester Road, Mossley.
