Transport leaders reinstate bus link

Date published: 18 August 2010

Residents of Carrbrook Village in Tameside are to have a lost bus link reinstated thanks to Greater Manchester’s transport leaders.

Earlier this year, Greater Manchester Integrated Transport Authority (GMITA) agreed to reinstate the weekday 343 service on to Staley Road and ensure it serves Manchester Road between Mossley Railway Station and the Royal George Hotel.

Now the Authority has agreed an additional extension to the service – which means the 343 will also serve Carrbrook Village, providing passengers with direct links to Mossley, Oldham and Hyde.

Councillor David Sandiford, Chair of GMITA’s Bus Network & GMPTE Services Committee, said: “This is great news for residents of Carrbrook Village, who have been requesting the reinstatement of this service, and I hope passengers will make good use of it.

“Direct bus links between Carrbrook Village and Mossley, Oldham and Hyde were lost in June 2009 when the bus operator revised the 343 service to make it more efficient.

“However, where there is a genuine need, we will always look at improving bus services for residents and I am delighted that we have been able to extend the 343, reinstating the service to Staley Road and now Carrbrook Village.”

The 343 will continue to operate its current route until the service revisions, which will see the 343 reinstated on Staley Road and Carrbrook Village as well as new links provided on Manchester Road, come into effect on Monday (30 August).
