Boyds Walk Residential Short Breaks unit, in Dukinfield has received its third, consecutive ‘outstanding’ rating from OFSTED.
Boyds Walk is part of ISCAN (the joint Council and Primary Care Trust integrated services for children with additional needs) and provides a service for children of both sexes between the ages of 5 to 18 and who live within the Tameside area on a respite (short break) basis.
There are currently 35 children who received regular short breaks at the home. These breaks are to enable families to sustain a good family life while coping with the demands a child with disabilities present, either because of complex medical needs or challenging behaviours.
Cllr Allison Gwynne, executive member for Children and Young People said: “I am delighted that the staff team have been recognised for their excellent work. They are fully committed to provide a service for children that is friendly, caring and welcoming. This has been recognised by the outstanding ratings given to the home.”
Caroline Eddy, team manager, has recently attended her second prestigious provider event in London to represent the team. The first one she attended was for 2007/2008 outstanding rating and at this second event, she was congratulated by Christine Gilbert, Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector, on the 2008/2009 inspection result.
