Betting shop staff threatened with gun

Date published: 05 March 2010

Staff were threatened at gunpoint during a robbery at a Tameside betting shop.

Shortly after 6.30pm on Wednesday 3 March 2010, two offenders entered the Coral bookies on Grosvenor Street, Stalybridge and demanded cash.

One of the offenders was armed with a handgun and another jumped over the counter and stole cash.

The pair ran off towards Kenworthy Street.

One of the offenders is described as white, 5ft 6in tall, of medium build with a pale complexion.

The second robber is described as white, about 6ft tall, of slimmer build.

Detective Inspector Dave Moores of Ashton CID, said: "This was a cowardly attack, these men have not given a second thought to using a gun and threatening innocent members of staff.

"We are doing all we can to identify who they are. I would urge those in the community who may have information about who is responsible, or who has perhaps overheard someone bragging about being involved, to call police.

"Incidents of this nature are very rare but we crucially need information from the public to bring these thugs to justice."

Anyone with information is asked to call Ashton CID on 0161 856 9254, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
