Date published: 26 February 2010
An Ashton school chef will be cooking up her winning dish for Tameside’s Deputy Mayor as part of her preparations for the School Chef of the Year competition.
Chris Pearson’s lunch will also be on the menu for the pupils at The Heys Primary School on Friday 5 March. Chris will be representing the borough at the North West Regional Final in Knowsley on Wednesday 10 March.
Her menu is Sweet Chilli and Onion Salmon served with Chive Creamed Potatoes and Heys Garden Salad, followed by a trio of Raspberry Desserts.
School Chef of the Year is an annual competition run by the Local Authority Caterers Association. It puts the preparation, cooking, creativity and presentation skills of school chefs to the test. Each entrant is required to produce a menu suitable for serving to primary school children. It consists of a nutritionally balanced two course lunch on budget of £1.25 per meal. The menu needs to reflect the seasonal availability of products in summer and typify the contestants’ regional cultural influences.
