£100 Prize Essay Competition

Date published: 08 February 2010

Ashton-under-Lyne Civic Society is pleased to announce the launch of an essay competition this month, aimed at young people in full-time education, aged between 16 and 18 and resident in the Borough of Tameside.

Its purpose is to draw the attention of the future citizens towards what would make an attractive and well-planned town that would enhance the quality of life, coupled with the need to conserve our heritage and develop civic pride. A large number of entries are expected and the winner’s school or college would reap the benefit of good publicity

The Society is pleased that the project has received the enthusiastic support of Tameside’s Executive Director of Services for Children and Young People, Mr Jim Taylor.

All entries should be submitted by the end of April and the announcement of the winner will take place at the end of June. All entries will receive a letter of commendation which, no doubt, could be used as part of the student’s CV.

Any further information may be obtained from the Secretary, telephone number 0161 343 7742.
