Date published: 17 December 2009
Greater Manchester Police has joined image based social networking site Flickr to interact with the public and give people an insight into what the police are doing to keep communities safe.
The Police Flickr page is already the largest official police page on the site and after being online for only three weeks the page has been viewed by more than 7,000 users worldwide.
Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan said: “Our presence on Flickr is growing continually and we’re adding more and more photographs to show the different aspects of policing. With over 25 million users worldwide GMP is using this new technology as another way to communicate with the public.”
There are hundreds of images available showing different areas of police work from helicopters and horses to police officers and patrol cars.
The pages also include historic photographs dating back to the 1950s.
