Healthy, happy staff at Tameside Hospital

Staff at Tameside Hospital are getting healthier and happier, thanks to a new health and wellbeing scheme which was recently recognised at a national awards event.
Tameside Hospital NHS Foundation Trust ‘s Employee Health and Wellbeing Strategy – ‘Healthy, Happy, Safe’ – received external recognition when it was shortlisted at the annual CBI/Human Capital Awards.
At the awards event last month, the Trust’s submission was confirmed as a runner-up in the Excellence in Public Sector category and was praised for its contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of staff.
Four members of staff who had helped develop and implement ‘Healthy, Happy Safe’ attended the event. The hospital’s holistic approach to improving the health and wellbeing of employees was highlighted as “an impressive submission” by the panel of judges.
Health, Happy, Safe was launched in February to help improve the health and wellbeing of all hospital staff and has been very successful.
The Trust’s Director of HR David Wilkinson said: “Our staff are our most important asset and we want to look after them. Healthy, Happy, Safe is all about making sure they are content in their workplace and we play our part in keeping them as safe and healthy as possible. We do this by making sure their working environment is suitable and that we protect them as much as possible. We feel we also go over and above this by encouraging and helping our staff become more healthy, fit and conscious about their own health.
“We’re very proud of the work we’ve done to develop and implement this strategy which has been very well received by our staff.”
