Bar closed down following reports of violence

Date published: 10 August 2010

A bar has been forced to close its doors following reports of violence.

Police asked for a review of the licence at Starlight Rooms, Manchester Road, Droylsden, after reports of violent disorder on the weekend of July 10 and 11 and concerns that there may be more.

A temporary closure order was granted by Tameside Council's licensing panel on July 14. However at a full hearing today (August 10) the panel decided to permanently revoke bar’s licence.

Chair of the licensing panel, Cllr Helen Bowden said: “Our priority is to protect public safety and prevent any future outbreaks of crime and disorder.

"Based on the evidence we heard about non-compliance by the bar of previous licensing conditions, we had very little confidence that they would comply to any new conditions we might have imposed to address our grave concerns about the business.”
