Chamber launches Carbon Reduction Group

Date published: 11 May 2010

Greater Manchester Chamber is proud to announce the launch of its Carbon Reduction Group, which has been set up in order to promote the expertise, skills and resources of its members in carbon management.

As Greater Manchester positions itself as a low carbon economy, the Group will work to ensure that local firms have the best chance to compete and benefit from the emerging opportunities. It will position itself as the private sector counterpoint to public sector activities in this field, ensuring that local businesses are able to prosper, sharing best practice and enabling joint working between members’ organisations.

In order to establish what skills and services are provided by the Chamber’s members, a survey has been launched, which will draw together information on the organisations involved in this field.

Commenting on the establishment of the Group, Dr Emma Gardner of AECOM, Chair of Greater Manchester Carbon Reduction Group, said:

“There are many companies across Greater Manchester that have carbon reduction services and products in place. Our aim is to establish who these organisations are and raise awareness of them throughout the business community. The Manchester Independent Economic Review clearly identified a “first mover advantage” in positioning Greater Manchester at the forefront of the global environmental industry and we believe that our Chamber members have the skills to deliver this vision.”

The Carbon Reduction Group is appealing for businesses involved in this field to fill in the survey.
