The Levi Roots Experience

Date published: 06 May 2010

Dragon’s Den slayer, Levi Roots, delivered a motivational talk to Aimhigher students at Hyde Clarendon Sixth Form College as part of the ‘Levi Roots Red Hot Experience’ tour this month.

Levi gained widespread fame after appearing on the TV programme Dragon’s Den looking for funding for his ‘Reggae Reggae Sauce’ and has now become a successful businessman alongside his Jamaican-music career.

The entrepreneur told the students about his background in Jamaica and his determination to become successful. Levi shared his three tips for success with the students, which were:

  1. Have a Unique Selling Point (USP)
  2. You must focus on your idea
  3. You must have the passion to see your idea through

The success of Levi’s Reggae Reggae Sauce combined with his huge personality made him a popular guest at the college for his motivational talk on Business and Enterprise. The Aimhigher event aimed to motivate learners to pursue their goals and overcome barriers they may be facing.

Levi answered questions from the students after performing a fantastic acoustic set and giving a live cookery demonstration. Students Support and Guidance officer, Victoria Howarth, said “It has been very exciting having Levi visiting the college and we found his talk really inspirational.”

Aimhigher coordinator at Hyde Clarendon, Corrine Solly commented “The college is very committed to the Aimhigher programme and this has been a great way motivating the students at this important time in the academic year.”
