Date published: 21 April 2010

Tameside trading standards officers are to feature in a new TV series investigating food safety.

Food fighters, which is being broadcast on BBC1 at 9.15am every day this week, is presented by chef Simon Rimmer and aims to highlight the work of people at the frontline of food safety.

The programme will feature the Tameside officers on Thursday (April 22) investigating counterfeit vodka sales in local off-licences and falsely advertised cod in a fish and chip shop.

Head of Tameside Council Trading Standards Dave Meakin said: “This is a great opportunity to highlight the wide variety of work we carry out on behalf of local consumers to ensure the safety, quality and value of products and services.”

Executive Producer Jess Fowle, of True North Productions behind the series, said: “We're a nation of food lovers who've now got more choice than ever before. But from grabbing a bite to gastro-delights, from eating in to taking out, there's always the chance to go wrong. So, it's just as well that there's a vast army of food fighters working to keep us safe.”
