Event: Exhibition: Media Circus

Can you remember crystal sets and gramophones? Maybe you were among the first buy a colour television back in the 1960s. Whatever technology you remember, you are bound to find something to spark nostalgia at Portland Basin Museum’s exhibition, ‘Media Circus’.

The exhibition, features televisions, radios, record players, cameras and computer games from the museum’s collection.

Rachel Cornes, Social History Curator said: “The objects have all been donated by local people over the years and show how much technology has evolved. Some younger visitors might not even recognise many of the gadgets. We’ve got a television from the 1950s, reel to reel players, an early mobile phone and records sold at local shops.

"It's wonderful to see so many memorable objects displayed together.”

In addition to the exhibition, visitors can also enjoy the museum’s recreated 1920s street and the recently revamped industrial history gallery. There are plenty of hands-on activities and trails to keep children of all ages entertained.
