24 hour Play Festival
Tameside Council’s Theatre Arts team is supporting the borough’s first ever 24 hour Play Festival.
Could be car-crash, could be a classic, but one thing’s for sure it will be an exciting 24 hours for Hyde Festival Theatre.
A group of 24 local and regional based actors (professional and amateur), six writers and six directors will meet for the first time at 10pm on Friday September 3.
After being split into six mini-theatre production companies, comprising of four actors, a writer and director, the groups will have less than 24 hours to write, rehearse and perform an original play.
Doors to the Festival Theatre will open at 7pm and at 7.30pm the curtain will rise on, hopefully, six mini-master pieces!

It Runs in the Family
Directed by Gerard Crawshaw
Dr David Mortimer is about to address a conference of neuro-surgeons with a speech that will probably earn him a knighthood.
Enter Jane Tate, a nurse he had a fling with 18 years ago who bore him a son - a son who is currently rampaging around the hospital searching for the dad he has never seen!
Frantic to hide this catastrophic news from his wife and the hospital authorities, David is forced to invent not one but two non-existent husbands for Jane...
Events spin deliriously out of control, complicated by a senile patient, a policeman, and a fierce matron hanging off a window ledge with a hypodermic syringe in her rump!
This funny farce promises an evening of uproarious fun for all.

Exhibition: Media Circus
Can you remember crystal sets and gramophones? Maybe you were among the first buy a colour television back in the 1960s. Whatever technology you remember, you are bound to find something to spark nostalgia at Portland Basin Museum’s exhibition, ‘Media Circus’.
The exhibition, features televisions, radios, record players, cameras and computer games from the museum’s collection.
Rachel Cornes, Social History Curator said: “The objects have all been donated by local people over the years and show how much technology has evolved. Some younger visitors might not even recognise many of the gadgets. We’ve got a television from the 1950s, reel to reel players, an early mobile phone and records sold at local shops.
"It's wonderful to see so many memorable objects displayed together.”
In addition to the exhibition, visitors can also enjoy the museum’s recreated 1920s street and the recently revamped industrial history gallery. There are plenty of hands-on activities and trails to keep children of all ages entertained.
